Constructed Landscape:
The theme I explore is Constructed landscape. My first thoughts about the constructed landscape were doubtful and stressful. This was because, at first, I had never done any type of landscape or tried taking photos in a landscape. As I developed my work on Constructed Landscape, my ideas and feelings started to change, it was getting interesting and exciting. At first, I started to take photos in the area where I live and the outcome of the photos I took gave me a large range of ideas about what to take photos next and where, this also gave me various ideas while I developed my work. My constant work really changed my feelings and perspectives towards the topic, Constructed landscape, it made me feel astonished every time I got to take photos and do some experiments. During this project, I found two photographers who really inspired me throughout the project, the photographers are Keith Arnatt and Mandy Williams. These two artists gave me a variety of ideas to improve my work and make the best quality of it. I learnt many different experiments digitally and physically. Not only that I learn, but I also learnt how to edit by the photographers, and I taught myself more advanced, to make my work look similar to their work, but using different editing tools.
All of my experiments, it was mostly done by editing digitally by using Photoshop, however except for one experiment that I did, which was inspired by Keith Arnatt, the experiments that I did were I took multiple of photos outside of my house in the dark. The first few photos I took, it look more plain and simple, so I changed the settings of the camera on Manual and I used the grass and old, brown leaves as my background, which was the idea I got from Keith, and I took photos on many different angles. I also use different background, such as a bench table and plain grass. I also used exposure and I just randomly shake camera a bit and there was a white line going across the photo so I took some photos of it. I used a circular mirror to make my photos look similar as Keith Arnatt’s photos. Another experiment that I did during the project, was I was constantly using Photoshop to edit my work, however at first I was using my phone, which limits my editing skills because it only have few tools that I can use. And then I switch to laptop and computer which was more easier to edit, because there are large variety of editing tools that I can use. What changed for me along the way was that I changed my work by changing the artists throughout the project. The most challenging about working like an artist was constantly doing a lot of experiment, and being patient about my work and also working persistent toward my work.
Yes, I have used my website to record my progress through thinking and making. One way to show my progress would be using Online Exhibition, I also designed my Online Exhibition page to look more simple and short instead of too much. At first, I put my best work, which was inspired by Keith Arnatt. And then I put my final experiment, which was editing my photos and made a collage. I made my Online Exhibition page like this, because it made me show my best work that I made throughout the project.
My final outcome was a collage full of photos, which I already edited, and I spread them out to show each of my photos. I was hoping to create a sculpture for my photos, unfortunately, I didn’t have time to make it, so I changed my idea to something more quicker and easier to make, which was obviously a collage on large cardboard. If I had more time, I would like to try to make slide and use tool and resources to make the best out of it. I would also like to try make sculptures, which I planned to do, but I didn’t have time for it. My personal work made me feel exciting and fun to explore and experience different experiments and learn more about editing. I think I mostly successfully explored the theme, Constructed Landscape, this is because I wanted to keep exploring and I wished the theme lasted little longer, so I can look at the meaning of the photos the artists made, and be inspired by them.
